Akane the Kunochi

I wrote a whole review about the various flaws of the game, but I never felt like I nailed it right. Much like the game, my review could be boiled down to a very lean version of it’s old self.

This is not a good game.

I thought about handling this game with kid gloves since it’s an indie, but that’s not doing anyone any favors. The person/people that worked on this game released it for people to play and enjoy, and they failed badly on one of those points. There was nothing fun about this game. And that’s the point of games. Should I be nicer because he didn’t have a bigger budget to work with? Forgive his sound design? The clumsy level design? The face that there are four enemies in the game? I say no. If you want to get better at something, you need to know what you’re doing wrong. And everything in this game is wrong.

The music in the menu. That god-awful noise she makes when she jumps. How she never sticks to a wall right away. How she then slides down the wall. How I then miss the jump and die. How that happens 10 more times. Repeat for 3 levels. Add boss fight with unclear win condition. Go to 10.
