Well if Blizzard and Quake can have a convention about their games every year, why can’t Call of Duty? Call of Duty XP 2011 is billed as the ultimate fan experience and is set for Labor Day weekend (September 2nd and 3rd) in Los Angeles and will run you $150 for this “experience”. Now before you go and say that Activision is just doing this to make even more money off the CoD crowd, they also announced that 100% of all ticket sales will be donated to the Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit, public benefit corporation that seeks to help veterans transition to civilian life, find work and establish careers, and assist other organizations that provide career training and job placement for veterans.
What to expect at this crazy con is getting a hands-on look at Modern Warfare 3′s multiplayer and the new Spec Ops survival co-op mode. Also on display for the first time will be the full feature functionality of Call of Duty Elite. That is not the best part though. How would you like to play paintball on a life-sized Call of Duty multiplayer map, as well as attempt to speed-run Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2′s legendary “The Pit” for real? I thought you would. There will also be Tournaments with prizes, some discussion panels and Q&A with Call of Duty developer and a Onsite Call of Duty armory and museum.
Tickets go on sale July 19th at www.callofduty.com/xp. Will this be worth the $150? If you are a big enough Call of Duty fan, maybe. I would honestly want to go just to play paintball on a recreation of a Call of Duty map.
