Dragon Age II Boiled Away from Steam

Not long after the Dragon Age II: Legacy DLC, the first major DLC for the game, was released earlier this week, the title itself was pulled off of the Steam digital distribution service. Well, that’s some straight poop for consumers, anyways.

Apparently, Steam didn’t like the whole idea that Legacy was purchased within the game itself, rather than through the Steam client. In a correspondence with IGN, SVP of Global E-Commerce for EA David DeMartini stated “Unfortunately, Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to sell downloadable content. No other download service has adopted this practice. Consequently some of our games have been removed by Steam.”

“We hope to work out an agreement to keep our games on Steam,” said DeMartini.

Let’s just hope this doesn’t confound the buying of any future EA titles on the Steam platform, as that’s where I, personally, do the majority of my PC buying. Hell, pretty much all of it, at this point. Just may require that Valve change the way in which purchases are made through the service.
