No Saving Grace: Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions Has One Permanent Save Slot

You may remember the hooplah surrounding the release of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, last month, in which it was discovered that the game had only a single permanent (cannot be deleted or reset) save file. Any progress made on a Mercenaries cart is recorded by that particular cart, until the end of time. Many claimed it was Capcom’s scheme to cripple the used game market, which of course they denied was the case.

While many hoped that this was an isolated scenario, Wired reported today that Namco Bandai has apparently hopped on-board with the idea and released Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions with but a paltry single, eternal save slot.

While trying to either reset or gain access to a list of scores in the 3DS title, Wired editor Chris Kohler writes, “On that point, I’ve looked all over, even going so far as to ask a Namco Bandai representative, and it doesn’t seem like there’s a way to erase the game data.” While this may seem negligible to many gamers, keep in mind that Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions features an achievement system. Picking up a used copy of the game just to see the turdy previous owner has already done everything might hamper things a bit, eh?

I think the only thing to say is what we all said the first time: I hope this isn’t a continued trend. Maybe if we hope extra hard, it won’t happen again?
