Diablo 3 to Require Constant ‘Net Connection

According Rob Pardo, Executive Vice President of Game Design for Diablo 3, you better be pretty confident in your internet connection if you’ll be wanting to get your Diablo 3 on, when it releases at some great golden point in the indescribable future. Pardo, when asked about the specific design choice, replied “I want to play Diablo 3 on my laptop in a plane, but, well, there are other games to play for times like that.” No, Rob Pardo. I will play Diablo 3 forever, wherever I go, even if I have to take the internet with me.

We reported last week that Driver: San Francisco is going to require a constant internet connection for DRM purposes. While Diablo 3 doesn’t ostensibly do so for the same reasons, I’m hoping it’s not a practice that begins to sneak its way into standardization. I mean, it’s not like this is going to stop anyone from buying Diablo 3. You and I both know that we’ll all buy it, no matter what we say. And when that day happens, all internet news will cease to ever be reported again, as we’ll all just be playing Diablo 3. See you then!
