New Footage for Sonic Generations, Still Cautiously Optimistic

Here’s some footage from Sonic Generations, the upcoming game out of Sonic Team which will celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary. This video gives you a look at a couple of classic levels pulled from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, redone in the Sonic Generations engine. You also get to see Sonic using a snowboard down a city street, which is definitely not made of snow.

The game itself isn’t looking so bad, although I do see some frame rate issues surfacing from time to time during gameplay, unless that’s just a flaw in the video itself. It’s difficult for me to get excited for a Sonic game just about ever, nowadays, after all the times Sega has duped me.

I’ve also got to ask why they think it’s a good idea to give Sonic a snowboard or a skateboard or any kind of board at all. I mean, his whole deal is that he runs really quickly. Are his legs tired? Does he just really want to prove that he has other hobbies?

Sonic really has gotten roughed up the past decade or so. Which is about half his life, when you think about it. Sort of a horrible existence, if you put it that way. Poor guy. He deserves much better than that. Let’s hope this game is his saving grace from that nightmare.

Sonic Generations is currently planned for release in November for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
