Quick Play: Might & Magic Heroes VI

Hooray! We got into a beta and I’m allowed to write about it. Hopefully this is fine. I know Andyb0y is getting all news-bloodlusty around the site. Hopefully hes not going underhanded on me… but HOORAY I get to talk about a game early. Don’t think I’ve done that since Fire & Sword. Looks like I’m all about games with ampersands in their titles. Well, here we go.

So far all is well. I played several of the M&M titles and I’m really linking onto this one. So far it has a good nostalgia factor to it, but also some cool new details here and there. Combat is quick and fun, which isn’t all that common in the turn based strategy genre. I haven’t found myself bored with the combat at all. The over-world map is just as easy to read as ever, just slightly more beautiful. The story is of a sort to have plenty of twists and turns sprinkled through out it. I really needed a game like this to come forward. A tried and true title that takes very efficient steps towards becoming an incrementally more perfect product. If that makes any kind of sense.

The thing is, that kind of circumstance is important to me. I’ve seen several titles change course and utterly disappoint the masses. Its reassuring to see Ubisoft step foward and proudly bring us a product that keeps to the title, but reassures you that its 2011. Might & Magic Heroes VI drops on Oct 11th (baring any set backs) on PC and I strongly suggest giving it a go. As long as they don’t decide it should become an action-platformer between now and then, we should be fine.
