In a recent conference call with THQ investors, THQ CEO Brian Farrell announced that they will no longer continue releasing titles in the Red Faction line of games. This is a move specifically in response to the “disappointing performance” of Red Faction: Armageddon in both sales and critical reception, according to Farrel.

“Given that that title now in two successive versions has [only] found a niche,” said Farrell to the investors, “we do not intend to carry forward with that franchise in any meaningful way.”

Well, that’s a bummer. While Armageddon didn’t look all that fun to me, Guerilla was an absolute blast, giving you the opportunity to fulfill my fondest childhood dream: plowing through a cluster of buildings in a giant robot. Sure, the game came with plenty of jank, with the whole destruction-based gameplay creating for some unexpected situations (ie: buildings suddenly crashing on your dumb head). But that was part of what made it fun (mostly the hammer and giant robots, though). But, sales are sales, and making games is a business, after all.

Rest in peace, Red Faction.
